The lighthouse constructed by the French in 1730 at Louisbourg was the first one established in Canada, and the second on the North American continent. At the bottom left in the distance can be seen the Fortress Louisbourg. At the base of the lighthouse is the remains of the first lighthouse built at the site.
This is the third lighthouse built at this site. It was built in 1923, a year after the second light was destroyed by fire.
